India beaten Afghanistan in the Group A fixture of the ICC World Twenty20 by 23 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India posted a score of 159 for the loss of 5 wickets in their opening ICC World Twenty20 fixture against Afghanistan courtesy a half century by Virat Kohli (50) and Raina scored (38) runs.
For Afghanistan Shapoor Zadran took two wickets yielding 33 runs in his 4 overs. The Afghans dropped three catches on the field and were disorderliness in the blowing division conceding 16 extras. Afghanistan Chasing a target of 160 were all out of 126 runs in 19.3 overs. Yuvraj Singh and Balaji scalped 3 wickets for both.
For Afghanistan Mohammed Nabi pinnacle scored with 31 runs in just 17 balls. The top order of Mohammad Shahzad (18), Nawroz Mangal (22) and Karim Sadiq (26) provided a good start but the opening of slowers bolwers did the trick for India and Ashwin also picked up 2 wickets.
